No, Americans can visit Italy without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Italy is part of the Schengen Zone, so your time there counts toward the Schengen limit. Your passport should be valid for at least three months past your planned departure. Starting in 2026, Americans will also need to register with ETIAS before traveling.
