Armenia uses the Armenian dram, written as AMD. The word “dram” actually means “money” in Armenian, and it’s been the country’s currency since 1993. The bills feature national poets, churches, and cultural icons. The dram has stayed pretty stable over the years, and locals mostly use cash for everyday transactions. You’ll find ATMs all over Yerevan, and card payments are catching up fast. Exchanging U.S. dollars or euros is easy and safe at official exchange points. The dram reflects Armenia’s mix of deep tradition and modern growth.
