Austria uses the euro, written as EUR. It switched to the euro in 2002 when it joined the Eurozone. Before that, the Austrian schilling was the national currency. Now, using the euro makes travel and trade across Europe much easier. Cash is still popular, especially in smaller towns and cafes, but cards are accepted almost everywhere. Austrian euro coins often show national symbols like Mozart and alpine flowers. The euro links Austria’s rich history with the rest of Europe’s modern economy.
