Belize’s currency is the Belize dollar, written as BZD. It’s pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of two Belize dollars for one U.S. dollar. You can use either currency almost everywhere, especially in tourist zones. The bills show Queen Elizabeth II and local wildlife like toucans and jaguars. Cash is common, but most hotels and restaurants take cards. The Belize dollar keeps things simple for visitors while supporting local business. It’s colorful, easy to use, and perfectly fits the laid-back Caribbean vibe of the country.
