The official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian. It’s used in schools, government, and media and is written in the Cyrillic alphabet. Russian is also widely spoken, especially in the east and south of the country. Many Ukrainians understand both languages and often switch between them easily. English is becoming more common among younger generations and in business. Ukrainian has a melodic sound and deep literary history. The language is an important symbol of national pride and cultural identity.
