Vanuatu has three official languages: Bislama, English, and French. Bislama, a Creole language based on English, is the most commonly spoken and used for daily communication. English and French are used in schools, government, and media. There are also over 100 local Indigenous languages across the islands. Most Ni-Vanuatu people speak several languages fluently. This rich mix reflects the nation’s diverse heritage and colonial past. Bislama serves as a unifying language that connects people from different islands and backgrounds.
