Samoa has a population of about 225,000 people. Most Samoans live on the islands of Upolu and Savaiāi, with Apia as the capital. The population is young, with steady growth supported by high birth rates. Many Samoans live abroad, especially in New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S. Rural villages remain central to the culture and lifestyle. Urbanization is increasing, but traditional ways of life are still strong. Overall, Samoa has a small, youthful, and culturally rich population.
