Sri Lanka has a population of about 22 million people. Most people live along the coastal plains and in cities like Colombo and Kandy. The population growth has slowed, with declining birth rates and improving healthcare. Urbanization is increasing but many still live in rural communities. The population is ethnically and religiously diverse, mainly Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim groups. Education levels are high, and literacy rates are among the best in South Asia. Overall, Sri Lanka has a well-educated, diverse, and steadily growing population.
