Taiwan has a population of about 23.6 million people. Most people live in urban areas along the western coast, especially in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. The population growth is very slow, with one of Asia’s lowest birth rates. Urbanization is nearly total, and the country enjoys high living standards. Taiwan’s population is aging, but healthcare and education are excellent. Immigration and technology-driven industries support demographic balance. Overall, Taiwan has a dense, aging, and highly developed population.
