Tonga has a population of about 105,000 people. Most Tongans live on the main island of Tongatapu, where Nukuʻalofa, the capital, is located. The population growth is slow, with many citizens living abroad in New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S. Family and community life remain very strong in Tongan culture. Urbanization is modest, with a mix of village and town living. The population is mostly Polynesian, with deep cultural traditions. Overall, Tonga has a small, close-knit, and stable population.
