Fillmore and his wife loved books so much that they helped start the White House library.
He was the last Whig president, and his term basically marked the end of the party.
Fillmore refused an honorary degree from Oxford because he felt he hadn’t earned it.
He personally helped firefighters during a major fire in Buffalo while serving as a public figure.
Fillmore opened trade talks with Japan, laying groundwork for later U.S. relations.
Despite being president, he always stayed humble and kept simple personal habits.
