How did Zachary Taylor die and why was his presidency so short?

Taylor died suddenly in 1850 after just about 16 months in office, making his term one of the shortest ever. The official explanation is that he got severely ill after eating a mix of cherries and iced milk during a super hot day, which led to digestive problems. Some people later speculated about poisoning, but historians mostly agree it was just a bad infection. His death shocked the nation because he seemed strong and sturdy. Losing him so early changed the whole political landscape and added more tension to the slavery debate. His sudden passing left a lot of “what if” questions behind. It’s one reason his presidency feels unfinished.
