What was Harrison known for before becoming president?

Before becoming president, Harrison made his reputation as a military commander and territorial governor. He led U.S. forces at the Battle of Tippecanoe, where he fought against Native American confederations led by Tecumseh’s brother, the Prophet. That victory gave him national fame and eventually became the slogan “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too” during his campaign. He also served as governor of the Indiana Territory, where he negotiated multiple treaties—many of which remain controversial today. His leadership on the frontier helped push American expansion westward. He built the image of a rugged, tough leader long before running for office. All of that laid the foundation for his political rise.
