Tyler married twice and had a huge family, with more children than any other U.S. president. His first wife, Letitia, passed away during his presidency, and later he married Julia Gardiner, who was much younger than him. People who knew Tyler described him as calm, polite, and very focused on family life when he wasn’t working. He loved music and even played the violin, which gave him a softer side people didn’t always see in politics. His homes, including Sherwood Forest in Virginia, were lively places filled with kids and relatives. Tyler enjoyed the quiet, rural lifestyle whenever he could. His mix of public challenges and private warmth made him a pretty interesting figure.
