Why did William Henry Harrison’s presidency end so quickly?

Harrison gave a famously long inauguration speech in cold, wet weather without wearing proper winter clothing. Not long after, he got sick—likely with pneumonia—and his condition worsened fast. Back then, medical care wasn’t exactly advanced, so the treatments he received didn’t help much. He died just 31 days after taking office, which shocked the country. His death set the first real test for presidential succession and raised questions no one had fully prepared for. People still bring it up because it’s such an unusual presidential story. It became a reminder of how unpredictable early American politics could be.
