Why was Andrew Jackson such a controversial president?

Jackson made some huge decisions that stirred up strong opinions on both sides. He pushed hard against the national bank, insisting it gave too much power to wealthy elites. He also used his presidential authority aggressively, which led critics to say he acted like a king instead of an elected leader. On top of that, his policies toward Native Americans, especially the Indian Removal Act, remain deeply controversial because of the suffering they caused. Supporters loved his tough approach and felt he fought for ordinary Americans. Opponents, however, believed he went too far and ignored basic rights and protections. That mix of admiration and criticism is exactly why his presidency still sparks debate today.
