Woodrow Wilson grew up in a pretty traditional Southern family, with strong Presbyterian roots and a dad who worked as a minister. His parents were of mainly Scottish and Scots-Irish descent, and they moved around a bit while he was young. Wilson often talked about how much his family shaped his values, especially when it came to education and service. He wasn’t born into wealth or anything glamorous; it was just a steady, disciplined upbringing. His childhood life in the post–Civil War South also influenced his worldview later on. Even though he later became a major national figure, his early life was pretty humble and quiet.
