People remember William Howard Taft for having one of the most unusual careers in American politics, because he didn’t just serve as the 27th president but later became Chief Justice of the United States. He actually liked being a judge more than being president, and he even admitted it. Taft had always been a lawyer at heart, and his family pushed him into politics more than he personally wanted. His presidency had some achievements, but he felt truly fulfilled only when he got onto the Supreme Court. A lot of folks see him as the only person who ever held both jobs. It’s basically his signature historical claim.
