After losing the 1932 election, Hoover actually rebuilt his reputation over time. He wrote books, travelled, and worked on various public projects. Presidents from both parties later asked him for help with government reorganisation because of his expertise. He chaired two major commissions that recommended efficiency reforms, which people called the “Hoover Commissions.” As he got older, the public softened toward him, seeing him more as a smart administrator than the man blamed for the Depression. He also spent a lot of time on humanitarian causes again. By the time he died in 1964, his legacy looked quite different from how it did in the 1930s.
