FDR won four presidential elections because people trusted his leadership during extreme crises. First came the Great Depression, where his New Deal programs offered hope and action when Americans were desperate. Later, World War II broke out, and voters wanted stability and someone experienced handling global conflict. His confidence, radio “fireside chats,” and calm voice made people feel like he understood their struggles. The economy didn’t magically fix overnight, but people believed he was trying everything possible. He connected emotionally with voters in a way few presidents ever have. His long presidency eventually inspired the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms.
