How did Einstein start his scientific career?

Einstein studied physics in Switzerland and struggled at first to find a university teaching job. He ended up working at a patent office in Bern. That quiet job gave him time to think deeply about physics. In 1905, he published four major papers, now called his “miracle year.” Those papers covered relativity, photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, and special relativity. They changed science permanently and launched his career to the top.
