Franklin invented all kinds of useful things like the lightning rod, bifocal glasses, and the Franklin stove. These weren’t just for fun—he liked solving real problems. His lightning rod helped protect buildings from fires caused by storms, which was a huge breakthrough at the time. Bifocals helped him and many others read and work more comfortably. He never patented his inventions because he believed knowledge should be shared. That mindset made him really respected by other scientists.
