The real turning point came when he starred in “Street Smart” in 1987 — critics went crazy for his performance. Then “Driving Miss Daisy” (1989) and “Glory” (1989) solidified him as elite talent. After that, huge films like “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Se7en” made him a legend. He basically became the guy everyone trusts to play wise, cool characters.
