The Globe Theatre was a wooden playhouse in London where Shakespeare’s company performed many of his works. It was built in 1599 using recycled timber from an earlier theatre. The stage was large, open-air, and surrounded by standing and seated spectators. Many of Shakespeare’s plays debuted there, and he was even a shareholder in the theatre. It burned down in 1613 after a cannon effect during Henry VIII ignited the roof. A modern reconstruction now stands nearby, welcoming visitors and hosting performances. It serves as a living memorial to Shakespeare’s art.
