How do I visit the U.S. Capitol and take a tour?

To visit the U.S. Capitol, most visitors enter through the Capitol Visitor Center, which serves as the main public entrance and orientation point. Tours of the Capitol are free, but you generally need to reserve a tour pass in advance online or through your member of Congress. Once inside, guided tours usually take about an hour and include the Rotunda, National Statuary Hall and other historic rooms. Tours are offered in English, and translation brochures are available in multiple languages upon request. It’s recommended to arrive early, as security screening and crowd control can take time. The Visitor Center also has exhibits, gift shops and a cafeteria. Advance planning ensures you get a preferred time slot, especially during peak tourist seasons.
