What is Lumen Field and what makes it special?

Lumen Field is the major outdoor stadium in Seattle that’s home to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, MLS’s Seattle Sounders FC, and NWSL’s OL Reign, making it one of the most active sports venues in the Pacific Northwest. It opened in 2002 on the site of the old Kingdome and quickly became known for its loud crowd noise and intense fan atmosphere during games. The stadium has an open‑air design with a partial roof that covers about 70 % of seats but still lets in that fresh Seattle air. It’s built to be quieter for opponents and louder for home fans, especially when the Seahawks play — many say the crowd feels like an extra player on the field. You’ll also find concerts, big soccer matches, and other major events here throughout the year. Its downtown location near Elliott Bay means you’re close to tons of restaurants, the waterfront, and public transit. Even non‑sports fans often love visiting just to see the vibe on a game or event day.
