Coit Memorial Tower is a historic tower located in San Francisco on top of Telegraph Hill. It was built in the 1930s and stands out because of its simple, Art Deco design. The tower was funded by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a wealthy local who wanted to improve the city’s beauty. It has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in San Francisco’s skyline. People visit mainly for the panoramic views of the city, the bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Inside, there are murals painted during the Great Depression that show California life in that era. It’s both a viewpoint and a piece of local history rolled into one spot.
