Is PIER 39 crowded and when is the best time to visit?

PIER 39 can get pretty crowded, especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons. Midday is usually the busiest time when tour groups and families show up. If you want a more relaxed experience, mornings tend to feel quieter and easier to walk around. Late afternoons can also be nice because the light hits the bay in a really scenic way. Weekdays are generally less packed compared to weekends. Weather in San Francisco can change fast, so layers help a lot even in summer. Even when it’s crowded, the pier is big enough that it rarely feels completely overwhelming.
