Elon Musk unveiled the Cyberсab robotaxi — no steering wheel, no pedals

The robotaxi presented by Tesla has no steering wheel or pedals. It has two doors “that open like butterfly wings,” Bloomberg notes. The cabin has room for only two people, with a touchscreen in front of them. Recharging is not via a plug-in charger, like other electric cars, but via “inductive charging,” which is “a kind of wireless.”

The Cybercab will cost "less than $30,000." According to Musk, he expects the robotaxi to be in production by 2026 or "before 2027." "I tend to be a little optimistic about the time frame," the billionaire said.

Musk also showed off the Robovan autonomous van, which can carry up to 20 people. How much it will cost and when it will be produced has not been reported.

The presentation also featured humanoid Optimus robots, which Tesla has previously presented. During the presentation, they walked among people, danced, and even made cocktails, TechCrunch writes. According to Musk, in the future, such robots will be able to act as assistants to people - for example, walking dogs, looking after children, mowing the lawn. Such a robot will cost from 20 to 30 thousand dollars.

According to Musk, fully autonomous vehicles will be safer than those controlled by a person, and will even be able to bring profit to their owners by renting them out for trips.

"It's a big piece of metal moving along the road at high speeds, so safety issues are very important," said Samitha Samaranayake, an associate professor of engineering at Cornell University, in a comment to BBC News. According to her, the research community "is not sure that Tesla's style of operation can provide the kind of safety guarantees that we would like."
