History of San Bernardino, California: when San Bernardino was founded and how it developed.

USA / California / San Bernardino

The area that is now San Bernardino was originally inhabited by the Serrano Native American tribe. The first European to visit the area was Spanish missionary Father Francisco Garcés in 1810. The city was founded in 1810 and incorporated in 1854.

San Bernardino is known for being the site of the St. Bernardino de Sena Estancia, a Spanish mission and rancho founded in 1819. The city grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, due in part to the arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1885.

In the 20th century, San Bernardino became a major transportation hub, with the construction of several freeways and the establishment of the Ontario International Airport. The city is also home to the National Orange Show, a popular annual event that celebrates the citrus industry.
