This well known county is named after George Walton (1749-1804), one of Georgia's delegates to the Continental Congress who signed the Declaration of Independence. The county seat of Walton County is Monroe. The county's area is about 329 square miles. Founded in 1818, today Walton County is home to 100 thousand residents.
