History of Louisville, Kentucky: when Louisville was founded and how it developed.

USA / Kentucky / Louisville

Louisville, Kentucky is the largest city in the state and the county seat of Jefferson County. The area was originally inhabited by the Miami, Shawnee and Cherokee tribes.

In 1778, the city of Louisville was officially founded by George Rogers Clark, a Revolutionary War hero, and named in honor of King Louis XVI of France.

In the early days, the city's economy was largely based on agriculture and transportation, with the Ohio River serving as a major transportation route for goods and people. In the late 18th century, Louisville became a major port city, and it was a center for shipping and trade.

During the Civil War, Louisville played a major role in supplying the Union army with weapons and other materials. After the war, the city continued to grow, and it became a major center of industry, particularly in the tobacco, whiskey, and transportation field.

In the early 20th century the city's population and economy boomed, and it became one of the most prosperous cities in the state. It is also known for the Kentucky Derby, one of the most famous horse race in the world, which takes place in Louisville every year.
