Surry County is situated in the northern section of North Carolina. The county is named after the county of Surrey in England, birthplace of then governor William Tryon. The area of Surry County is about 538 square miles. The county was formed in 1771 from Rowan County, and it is populated today by 71 thousand residents. Dobson is the county seat of Surry County.
