Lawrence County is situated on the southern tip of Ohio. This wonderful county was named after Captain James Lawrence (1781-1813), naval hero in the War of 1812. The area of Lawrence County is about 454.96 square miles. The county, created on Dec 21, 1815 from Gallia and Scioto Counties, and it is populated today by 57 thousand residents.
