History of Chattanooga, Tennessee: when Chattanooga was founded and how it developed.

USA / Tennessee / Chattanooga

The area where Chattanooga is located has been inhabited by various indigenous peoples for thousands of years, but the modern city was founded in 1838 by Ross's Landing, named after John Ross, the chief of the Cherokee Nation.

During the American Civil War, Chattanooga played an important role as a transportation and supply hub for the Confederate army. Union forces captured the city in 1863, and it was an important base for the Union army during the remainder of the war.

After the war, Chattanooga experienced a period of rapid growth and development, driven by the expansion of the railroad and the emergence of new industries, such as textiles, iron, and steel. In the early 20th century, the city grew and developed even more, with the construction of new housing developments, the establishment of several military bases, and the building of the Chickamauga Dam.

Today, Chattanooga is a vibrant and diverse city with a population of over 170,000, known for its natural beauty, rich history, and thriving economy. The city is also home to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a number of major businesses and organizations.
