Franklin County is situated on the northern edge of Vermont. The area of Franklin County is about 637 square miles. The county was formed in 1792 as part of Chittenden County, and it is populated today by 50 thousand residents. St. Albans (city) is the shire town of Franklin County. The county is named after Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), one of the most revered Founding Fathers of the United States.
