South Korea is considering sending specialists to Ukraine in response to the involvement of DPRK troops in the war on Russia's side

South Korea is considering a plan to send military and intelligence personnel to Ukraine in response to the involvement of DPRK units in the war on Russia's side, Renhap writes, citing a government source.

According to South Korean intelligence, the DPRK has sent about 1,500 troops to Russia to participate in combat operations on the side of the Russian Armed Forces. In total, intelligence suggests that North Korea is preparing to send about 12,000 of its troops to Russia.

In this regard, a Renhap source said, Seoul is considering the possibility of sending military intelligence officers to Ukraine who could analyze North Korean combat tactics or take part in interrogations of DPRK troops if they are captured.

South Korean authorities are also considering the possibility of direct arms deliveries to Ukraine, which the country has so far refrained from. In the event of such deliveries, a Renhap source said, priority would be given to defensive rather than offensive weapons.

Russian authorities have not confirmed the information about the involvement of North Korean troops in military operations in Ukraine on the side of the Russian Armed Forces, calling it "contradictory." Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said on October 19 that the United States cannot yet confirm or deny reports of North Korean troops being sent to Russia to participate in the war.

Russian ambassador summoned to South Korean Foreign Ministry over alleged sending of North Korean troops to Ukraine.
