German coalition falls apart. When new elections to the Bundestag may take place?

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will bring to the Bundestag the question of a vote of confidence in the German government. This may happen as early as January next year.
"In the first week of the Bundestag session in the new year, I will ask for a vote of confidence in the government so that the Bundestag can vote on it on January 15," Scholz said. According to him, this means that the members of the Bundestag can decide whether to open the way for early new elections.
"These elections could be held in compliance with the terms established by the Constitution, no later than the end of March. I will now quickly try to talk with the leader of the opposition Friedrich Mertz. I would like to offer the opportunity to work constructively on two, and maybe more, important for our country with issues: strengthening our economy and our defense," Scholz emphasized.
The far right has already reacted to the collapse of the coalition. The co-leader of "Alternative for Germany" Alice Weidel even created a tweet in X. "The end of the 'traffic lights' coalition is a liberation for our country. The end of the self-proclaimed 'coalition of progress', which led Germany to the economic abyss in seven-mile steps, was more than overdue," Weidel writes.
It should be noted that this year the far-right AfD became the leading political force in local elections in Thuringia for the first time. In Saxony, the party took second place.
According to the co-chair of the "Greens", vice-chancellor and minister of economy Robert Habek, they plan to "now quickly clear the way to organized new elections."
"So in the spring, Germany will have to make a new decision about the next government coalition. Until then, we are in office, and we are firmly determined to fully fulfill the duties of the government and ensure the stability that Germany can and must provide in Europe," he said.
In turn, the Minister of Finance and the leader of the "Free Democratic Party" Christian Lindner accused Chancellor Scholz of intractability and unwillingness to seek compromises, as well as the deliberate collapse of the ruling coalition.
"The Free Democrats will continue to take responsibility for this country. And we will fight for the same in another government next year," he said.
