Why is Chicago called the Windy City?

Chicago earned the nickname “The Windy City” not just because of its breezes off Lake Michigan, but also due to its long-winded politicians in the late 19th century. The term became popular during the rivalry with Cincinnati and was cemented during the 1893 World’s Fair.
