Why is Phoenix called the Valley of the Sun?

Phoenix got its nickname, "The Valley of the Sun," because it sits in a desert valley surrounded by mountain ranges and gets an insane amount of sunshine — over 300 days a year! It’s one of the sunniest major cities in the world. The name was actually part of a tourism campaign back in the 1930s and really stuck. The bright skies and dry weather attract snowbirds, retirees, and sun-seekers year-round. But be warned — that sun can turn brutal in summer when temps hit 110°F and beyond!
