Why is Denver called the “Mile High City”?

Denver is famously known as the “Mile High City” because its elevation is exactly one mile (5,280 feet) above sea level. You’ll even find a marker on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol building that shows the exact spot. This altitude gives Denver its crisp air, blue skies, and unique climate. It’s also a big part of the city's identity, from sports teams to business names. Visitors often notice the elevation when adjusting to outdoor activities.
