Why is Atlanta called the “City in a Forest”?

Atlanta earned the nickname “City in a Forest” because of its lush tree canopy and abundance of green spaces. Even in dense urban areas, you’ll find tree-lined streets, parks, and wooded neighborhoods. In fact, nearly half of Atlanta is covered by trees, making it one of the most forested major cities in the U.S. It’s a welcome contrast to the concrete jungles of other cities.
