Cool facts about Westminster Palace

The Palace of Westminster houses the UK Parliament and has over 1,100 rooms. The current building was largely constructed in the mid-19th century after a fire destroyed much of the original in 1834. It includes the famous Big Ben clock tower (now renamed the Elizabeth Tower). The building is an exemplar of Gothic Revival architecture. It sits on the banks of the River Thames in London. The palace has been the center of political life in Britain for centuries. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most recognized buildings in the world.
