Yellowstone National Park was established on March 1, 1872. It became the world’s first national park, setting a precedent for the creation of protected areas globally. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into law. The park’s establishment aimed to protect its geothermal features, wildlife, and natural scenery from exploitation. Yellowstone’s creation also promoted tourism and scientific research. Over time, it has inspired the establishment of hundreds of other national parks worldwide. Its historic significance is recognized as a cornerstone of environmental conservation.
