Maracana has hosted many of football’s biggest events, including the 1950 and 2014 FIFA World Cup finals. It was also the venue for the football competitions during the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Paralympics. Additionally, it regularly hosts the Campeonato Carioca and Brasileirão matches, as well as Copa Libertadores finals. The stadium has also welcomed international friendlies and legendary exhibition games over the decades.
