La Scala was built in 1778 after a fire destroyed Milan’s previous opera house. It was designed by architect Giuseppe Piermarini, who created a neoclassical style theater. The project was financed by wealthy Milanese families, many of whom were granted private boxes as a reward. The inaugural performance was Antonio Salieri’s opera "Europa riconosciuta." Since then, La Scala has undergone several renovations to preserve its historical beauty. Today, it remains both a cultural treasure and a modern performance venue.
