Mont Blanc is the tallest mountain in Western Europe at 4,808 meters (15,774 feet).
The first ascent was made in 1786 by Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard.
The Mont Blanc massif contains more than 40 peaks over 4,000 meters high.
The mountain’s glaciers cover about 200 square kilometers (77 square miles).
The Mont Blanc Tunnel allows cars to travel between France and Italy in about 15 minutes.
Climbing Mont Blanc is sometimes called a “rite of passage” for mountaineers.
On clear days, Mont Blanc can be seen from as far away as Lyon, Geneva, and even Milan.
