Tibet’s climate is harsh due to its high elevation, with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. The thin air at high altitude means less oxygen, which visitors often find challenging. Despite the cold, Tibet enjoys strong sunshine, earning it the nickname “the land of sunlight.” Rainfall is scarce, and much of the land is dry and barren, except in valleys where agriculture is possible. The environment shapes both the traditional lifestyle and the architecture of Tibetan settlements.
