When was Princeton University founded?

Princeton University was founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey. It is the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. The university was initially located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, before moving to Princeton in 1756. It became officially known as Princeton University in 1896.
