Who commissioned Neuschwanstein Castle?

Neuschwanstein Castle was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1869. He intended it as a personal retreat and a homage to Richard Wagner, the famous composer. King Ludwig was known for his fascination with medieval legends and fairy tales, which heavily influenced the castle’s design. Though he never fully lived in the castle, it reflects his romantic vision. The project consumed much of his personal fortune and inspired other castles worldwide.
